Students of this three session workshop will create a face mug using traditional techniques shared alongside the historical background of this art form.
Ticket sales go directly to support of the Lee County High School Ceramics Department (except for the cost of one delicious beer in that face mug!) Cost includes all materials, tools (including glaze and clay), kiln time, instructor time & one tasty beer in that cool mug you've crafted.

***SESSION OVERVIEW***
Session 1 - Sunday May 6th 1pm-4pm at Lee County High School art room
The workshop will open with participants receiving an overview of the history and origin of the Southern Folk Art Face Jug from potter and Lee County High School Ceramics instructor, Jody Stouffer. He will demonstrate the steps participants will use to add facial characteristics to their ceramic creations. Participants with then construct their own face jugs using a slab hand building technique and add the facial characteristics. Stouffer and upper level students of the Lee County High School ceramics department will be present to critique and offer help. At the conclusion of session 1, the face jugs will be set off to air dry and await their first firing in the kiln.
Session 2 - Sunday May 20th 1pm-4pm at Lee County High School art room
Participants will return to find that their face jugs have been fired and are now in the bisque ware phase. The group will learn how professional potters glaze their work before glazing their own face jug creations.
Session 3 - Sunday, June 3rd 3pm - ? at Hugger Mugger Brewing beer hall
Participants will meet at Hugger Mugger Brewing for the unveiling of their final face mug creation and then enjoy a free beer (or craft soda) in their face mug.
